Sheet Metal Laser Cutting:
Precision, Versatility and Speed at the Service of Industry

Sheet metal laser cutting is now one of the most advanced and high-performance technologies for metal processing. It enables clean, precise and repeatable cuts, even on complex geometries, with reduced processing times and total control over the final result.

At IMT, we use state-of-the-art laser systems capable of managing both prototypes and large production batches, ensuring consistently high quality over time. Our latest system not only enables cutting with nitrogen and oxygen but also with compressed air, thus offering a cost-effective alternative that reduces operating costs and environmental impact without affecting the quality of the result.

What Sheet Metal Laser Cutting is
and How it Works

Laser cutting is a thermal process that uses a high-intensity laser beam to melt and vaporise the material along a predetermined path. The laser is guided by CAD/CAM software, which allows highly flexible and precise programming.

Cutting takes place without direct contact with the material, which prevents mechanical deformation and makes it possible to work with great accuracy even on thin or delicate sheet metal.

How the process works
and why it’s worthwhile

The process stages

01.

CAD design: each component is digitally designed and optimised for cutting.

02.

Nesting optimisation: strategic arrangement of components to minimise waste.

03.

Sheet metal loading: this can be done manually or using automatic systems.

04.

Laser cutting: controlled by a CNC system that moves the laser head along the cutting path.

05.

Component collection: the components are unloaded, labelled if required, and sent to the next stages.

The Advantages of IMT’s Sheet Metal Laser Cutting

This technology offers numerous operational and quality advantages over other cutting techniques, such as punching, blanking or mechanical cutting:

When is Laser Cutting Suitable?

Laser cutting is ideal when complex, precise parts need to be produced quickly, even in small batches or on delicate materials. Compared to punching or blanking, it offers greater design freedom and is perfect for hole cutting, internal cut-outs, angular cuts or unconventional shapes.

It is particularly suitable for highly specialised sectors, such as:
• Electronics and control panels
• Industrial design
• Light metal fabrication
• Technical furniture
