Powder Coating for Sheet Metal:
Protection, aesthetics and durability for industrial components

What powder coating is

Powder coating is a surface finishing process that involves applying thermosetting or thermoplastic powders to metal surfaces such as sheet metal. Unlike liquid coating, it does not use solvents and ensures a smooth, durable and sustainable finish.

The process involves applying the powder electrostatically to the component and then polymerising it in an oven at controlled temperatures. The result is a compact, durable layer with a high-quality finish.

How powder coating works

Operational stages

01

Surface preparation
The sheet metal is thoroughly degreased to remove impurities, oils and residues. A clean surface is essential to ensure that the powder coating adheres perfectly.

02

Washing and protective treatment
After degreasing, the sheet metal is washed with demineralised water (DEMI water), which prevents the formation of streaks or contamination. This is followed by a protective salt spray treatment, which helps to increase corrosion resistance and improve the durability of the coating, particularly in outdoor or harsh environments.

03

Powder application
Powder coating is applied using electrostatic spray guns, which charge the particles and ensure they adhere perfectly to the metal surface. This process guarantees even coverage with no

04

Curing and polymerisation
The coated parts are placed in a temperature-controlled oven (between **160°C and 200°C**) for curing and powder polymerisation. During this stage, the coating melts and bonds to the surface, forming a compact, strong and durable layer.

Why choose powder coating
for sheet metal

This type of finish is particularly suitable for sheet metal used in the industrial, construction and street furniture sectors.

It is the ideal solution when the following are required:

• Greater protection against wear, corrosion and weathering
• High aesthetic quality, with refined and customisable finishes
• The option to choose customised colours and textures
• An eco-friendly process, in line with current environmental regulations

Types of powders
that can be used

Depending on the customer’s requirements and the conditions of use, various types of powders can be employed.

Polyester powders are ideal for outdoor applications thanks to their excellent UV resistance. Epoxy-polyester powders combine good aesthetic performance with good chemical resistance, making them versatile for a wide range of applications.

Epoxy powders are used for particularly harsh indoor environments or for products subject to mechanical stress, as they provide a high level of protection.

Available colours and finishes

The choice of colour and finish is essential for enhancing the appearance and ensuring the functionality of the coated product. We offer a wide range of standard RAL colours, special finishes and treatments on request.

Available colours

Customers may specify their preferred colour code (RAL or customised), also with a matt, gloss or satin effect.

Available finishes

smooth, embossed, textured, sandblasted, metallic, Corten-effect or other decorative finishes.

To meet every aesthetic and technical requirement, we work with a range of powder coating suppliers, ensuring that we can fulfil all our customers’ specific requests, no matter how particular they may be.

Information required from the customer:
When making an enquiry or placing an order, please specify:
• The RAL code or the desired customised colour
• The type of finish (e.g. smooth, embossed, matt, etc.)
• The area of use (indoor or outdoor), so that the most suitable type of powder can be selected

If you’re unsure about your choice, our technical team is on hand to help you find the perfect balance between aesthetics, performance and durability.
